Breathable Membranes: Engineered for Protection and Performance

In industries where moisture control, air permeability, and protective barriers are essential, breathable membranes have become vital functional materials. These advanced films and laminates enable the exchange of vapor and gases while blocking liquids, dust, or contaminants—making them indispensable in sectors ranging from construction and textiles to medical and packaging.

What Are Breathable Membranes?

Breathable membranes are microporous or monolithic films designed to allow water vapor transmission (WVTR) while remaining impermeable to liquid water and other external agents. They are typically made from polymers such as:

  • Polyethylene (PE)

  • Polyurethane (PU)

  • Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)

  • Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE)

These materials are either extruded or laminated into multi-layer composites with nonwovens, fabrics, or foils to enhance performance and durability.
